The Creature from the Black Lagoon models and masks...

Make-up artist Bud Westmore took over the Universal make-up department recreating the Universal Monsters for the hit comedy Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). During the 1950's he created many of the atomic horrors, including the Metaluna Mutants in This Island Earth and the aliens in It Came From Outer Space.

Collaborating with designer Millicent Patrick in 1954, they created what is acknowledged as the last of the Universal Classic Monsters - 'The Creature from the Black Lagoon'.

Dead fisherman prop from Jaws...

In Steven Spielberg's classic 1975 movie, Jaws, Police Chief 'Martin Brody' (Roy Scheider) and Marine Biologist 'Matt Hooper' (Richard Dreyfuss) investigate a series of shark attacks around Amity Island.

Scouting aboard Hooper's boat they discover the wreckage of a half-sunken boat belonging to local fisherman 'Ben Gardner' (played by Craig Kingsbury), who went out hunting for the killer shark.

Exploring the sunken vessel underwater, they discover a giant shark's tooth and the severed head of the fisherman, which makes Hooper drop the tooth in shock.

This special make-up effect from Jaws was on display at Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show in Florida on September 23, 2010.

This Island Earth Metaluna Mutant mask on display...

In 1955 This Island Earth was one of the first major science fiction films to be made in Technicolor and at the time was critically praised for its special effects, great script and dazzling colour.

Bud Westmore and the Universal make-up department created two alien designs for consideration by the studio executives for the 1953 movie It Came from Outer Space.

Apparently the design that was rejected was saved and later used as the 'Mutant' in Universal's sci-fi extravaganza This Island Earth.
