TV and movie costumes on display from the Walt Disney Archives...

At the very end of 2011, I was fortunate to pop onto the Disney Studio lot in Burbank, California to check out the latest costumes on display from the Walt Disney Archives.

Original TV and movie treasures from the Walt Disney Archives

Included in the exhibit in the lobby of the Frank G. Wells building on December 30, were outfits featured in popular ABC television shows and Disney films.

The reflection of the sun on the cases doesn't always make it possible to get great images of the displays, so you can also check out these costumes and props from Disney's Secretariat on display at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood and at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema.

I've previously seen some of the other costumes on display at Disney's D23 Expo, but it was nice to get a closer look at them again, plus see some new additions I'd never glimpsed before in person.

Stay tuned in the days to come for more photos of these costumes, including:

Included in the millinery display were two miniature hats that once featured in Walt Disney's 'Granny's Cabin' diorama, which was an eight foot long miniature replica of a Midwest pioneer farm home reproduced from Disney's 1948 movie So Dear To My Heart, somewhere at the end of 1950.

The miniature model was apparently originally exhibited at the Festival of California Living at the Pan-Pacific Auditorium in L.A. in November and December 1952.

The penultimate hat in this selection was worn by 'Sam the Eagle', an audio-animatronic bald-eagle who was the Master of Ceremony within Disneyland's 'America Sings' theme park attraction in Anaheim, California from 1974 to 1988.

Finally, I think you'd agree that no Disney hat collection would be complete without a set of 'Mouse Ears'. This particular pair were worn by Jimmie Dodd as the host and head 'Mouseketeer' of the Mickey Mouse Club from 1955 to 1959.

I hope you've enjoyed this collection of famous headwear, be sure to check out other Disney movie hats, caps, helmets and crowns in Part One and Part Two of the Magic of Millinery.
